| Vlissingen operating base for construction of new Vattenfall wind farm07-02-2013 Vattenfall, the parent company of Nuon, has started building work on DanTysk, a large 288MW wind farm at sea. The first four of the eighty wind turbine piles have been transported from the BOW terminal in Vlissingen and are being installed on the German-Danish border in the North Sea.
The DanTysk wind farm is situated on the boundary of the German and Danish economic zone, 70 kilometres west of Sylt. It is a joint venture between Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München (SWM). The wind farm consists of 80 wind turbines and will provide 400,000 households with sustainable electricity. The ship ‘the Seafox 5’ is being used to transport the piles. The vessel is 151 metres long and is being used to install the foundations for the wind turbines in the North Sea. The ship’s crane was designed to support a load of up to 1,200 tonnes. The foundation piles will be sunk into the sea bed at a maximum depth of 32 metres. If all goes according to plan, the wind farm will be completed in 2014. To protect marine mammals, a bubble curtain will be used underwater, to reduce the noise during construction work.
Dutch companies are building the substation The DanTysk substation is being built near Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. This is taking place in a joint venture with the specialist firms Hollandia and Strukton. This work is expected to take until spring 2013. The substation is the pulsating heart of the DanTysk wind farm. In the substation, the energy from the 80 wind turbines will be collected for further transportation. A cable under the sea bed will then carry the energy to a power transfer station in Germany. In the summer of 2013, the substation will be taken by ship to its final destination, DanTysk. | News
